Rekkas Cottage Walking in Skopelos
Besides the main town of Skopelos, there are the villages of Glossa, Loutraki, upper & lower Klima & Elios. The inhabitants of Skopelos have taken great care to look after
their town & have retained the traditional architecture of the island. You can wander
around the narrow cobbled streets up to the many churches without worrying about vehicles
& noise. The courtyards of the houses are neat & well kept & usually have
terra-cotta pots containing a riot of flowers. Skopelos is an agricultural island planted with olive, plum, pear, almond & walnut trees. Where the slopes are too steep for cultivation, pine trees grow, giving an overall impression of green fertility not found on many Greek islands. There are many springs & streams &, like it's neighbouring island of Skiathos, it reflects the lushness of the Pelion Peninsula nearby. The many country churches & chapels are worth a visit & there are also beautiful walks all over the island.
